Games Day 1 Report and Photo Album are now posted!

Southern California's Games Day is a full day of convention-style open gaming at a very low cost. We play all sorts of strategy games: German games, abstract boardgames, wargames, and card games. The first was held in January, where we played Big Boss, Carabande, Assault on Hoth, Rome at War, Ritter ohne Furcht und Tadel, Minion Hunter, Corsairs, Tikal, Attila, Take 6!, Tennis Masters, San Marco, Empires of the Ancient World, King of the Elves, Adel Verpflichtet, Red Empire, Clash of the Lightsabers, Traumfabrik, Arbos, Queen's Gambit, Simple GBOH (Lamia 208 BC), Die Glucksritter, Expedition, and Carcassonne. Check the online report and photo album. Now the second Games Day is coming up soon:
Date: Saturday, March 24, 2001
Time: TBA (probably 11am-9pm, like last time)
Place: Burbank, Petco Community Center, 3525 West Victory Blvd.
Cost: Technically, it's free! A little business for Petco or small donation to their supported charities is appreciated, though.

Please RSVP via email whether you're sure you'll be there, or even just hope you'll make it. Thanks.

Petco?

Not the first place you think of for boardgames, is it? :-) What matters, though, is that they have a Community Center, and the hospitality to offer us its use. While organizing Games Day we also looked into community rooms at local shopping malls and libraries. Both close early (5 or 7pm), and would require admission fees of $7 or more to cover the expense. Not a good deal. Contrast that with Petco, whose Community Room is actually free(!), and they stay open until 9pm. As a show of thanks for their generosity, we're asking gamers with pets to consider buying something from the store while you're at Games Day, or else make a small (few bucks) donation to a charity Petco recommends.

A big thanks to Petco!

Spread the word!

Announcements for Games Day have been made online where boardgamers are often found (rec.games.board, Consimworld, spielfrieks), and our flyer was available at OrcCon. Want to help out? Tell your boardgaming friends about Games Day, or download the flyer to print out and post in your local game shop (with permission, of course!)
